The Earliest Years Matter Most
A child's earliest years shape everything that follows — how they regulate stress, form relationships, and come to feel safe in the world. And no one holds a young child alone: supporting a baby means supporting the parent, the caregiver, the whole family around them.
Families & Early Childhood brings free, trauma-informed movement and connection to families in those first, formative years — babies, toddlers, and young children, alongside the parents and caregivers raising them. It's where the Across Her Lifespan continuum meets the next generation: care that begins before birth and keeps holding families as their children grow.
Why It Matters
The families who most need support in the early years are often the ones with the least access to it. New parents — especially Black and BIPOC parents, and those navigating financial strain, isolation, or their own histories of trauma — are frequently exhausted, unseen, and under-resourced at exactly the moment connection matters most.
We create spaces where families can slow down, move together, regulate their nervous systems, and belong — in trusted community settings, led by educators who reflect the families they serve.
Our Programs
Mommy & Baby (Postpartum) — gentle, trauma-informed movement for new parents and their babies together — supporting recovery, bonding, and the tender fourth-trimester months.
Baby Yoga & Developmental Movement — playful, sensory movement that supports babies' development and strengthens the parent-infant bond.
Mom & Toddler — movement, song, and connection for toddlers and their caregivers — building regulation and joy in the same space.
Children's Movement & Wellness — trauma-informed movement and mindfulness for young children, in language and play that meet them where they are.
How It Works
All Families & Early Childhood programming is grounded in MCW's Majestic Healing Pathways™ model — trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and built on belonging, gentle movement, breath, rest, connection, and choice. Care is delivered by Black and BIPOC educators who reflect the families they serve, creating the trust that makes early-childhood spaces feel safe.
Programming is offered free or on a sliding scale, so cost is never a barrier to taking part.
Where We Deliver It
We bring early-childhood programming into the community spaces families already know and trust:
City of Cambridge Center for Families — prenatal and postpartum programming, Mom & Toddler, and developmental movement for babies.
The Dance Complex — Mom & Toddler, developmental movement for babies, and family movement classes in Central Square.
Smart from the Start — programming for mothers, children, and families as part of a whole-family partnership.
Cambridge Community Center — children's and family wellness in a trusted neighborhood institution.
Every family deserves to feel held — from the very first days.
Healing is a right, not a privilege.
